HESED AFRICA HOSTS INAUGURAL GENDER-INCLUSIVE FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT TO MARK INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2023

HESED Africa, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting health, social and economic
capacities in vulnerable communities, hosted its inaugural gender-inclusive football tournament
on 23rd March 2023, at the Agrarian / Red Soil Grounds in Mwiki, to mark International
Women’s Day.
The tournament, which aimed to promote the theme of #EmbraceEquity, saw six teams
participate, consisting of four male teams and two female teams. Each match was between the
host and refugee community, promoting sports for social change.

The day was filled with excitement and friendly competition as teams battled it out on the field.
In the end, the Kasarani Starlets emerged as the winners in the female category, scoring one goal
against runners-up Amani Ladies FC, who failed to score any goals. In the male category,
Kasarani Allstars emerged as champions with three goals against runners-up Kasarani Youth FC
– VTG, who scored one goal.
Apart from the football games, the tournament also provided on-site HIV testing services and
education on gender-based violence, along with ample entertainment for all participants. The
event attracted media houses from across the country, who witnessed the historic event.
HESED Africa is committed to promoting gender equality and inclusivity, and this tournament is
just one example of our dedication to this cause. We believe that male inclusivity is a crucial
aspect of achieving equity, and we look forward to hosting more events that promote this cause.
HESED Africa expresses its gratitude to the government, international partners, local NGOs, and
CBOs for their support in making the tournament a success.
